Vision Boards //Why you need one and what to do. (Hint, Hint. Team building exercise)
There’s something almost electric that happens when you take your dreams out of your head and put them somewhere you can actually see them. Not tucked in a notebook or saved in your phone. But right there on a board, a wall, a page. Where they stare back at you and quietly say, “Remember me? Remember why we’re doing this?”
That’s why I love vision boards! They’re not just a collage of pretty pictures. They’re declarations. Invitations. Daily reminders of who you are becoming long before anyone else sees it. And honestly? We all need that little reminder. Especially when life gets loud and we are busy KFG'ing away.
You may ask yourself. Yes, Krista... but do they actually work? YES. YES. YES! Your brain loves clarity. When you show it a picture of something you want, it doesn’t think, “Oh that’s cute.” It thinks, “Okay, noted. Let’s start looking for ways to make that happen.” And it does!
It starts noticing opportunities. It starts filtering out noise. It starts energizing the parts of you that want to grow. That’s why having your vision in front of you matters A TON. It becomes a conversation between your present self and your future self.
It’s also grounding. When the world feels chaotic, your vision board quietly pulls you back to center and whispers, “This is what you wanted. Keep Freaking Going.”
How to decide what you should put on a vision board:
This is where people get stuck, because we think the board has to be beautiful or perfect. It doesn’t. It just has to feel like you. Perfectly imperfect. A beautiful mess. Those boards are my favorite! Because they are REAL!
Think about the whole picture of your life. Your career, your relationships, your health, the places you want to travel, the version of you you’re stepping into. Think about the words you want more of in your year: calm, joy, strength, confidence, adventure, courage. Then find images, phrases, even colors that represent those things. If it matters to you, it belongs on the board.
The process of creation is just as powerful as the finished product, so start by making it an experience. Invite your friends! Your team! Your neighbors! Your dogs! Put on music that matches the mood you want for your year. Light a candle. Pour a glass of wine or make a cup of tea. Give yourself permission to settle in and dream a little.
Before you gather anything, take a moment to reflect. Ask yourself questions like:
What do I want more of in my life this year?
What am I ready to release?
What am I proud of from this past year?
What do I want to feel every day?
Let your answers shape what you choose next.
Then go find the things that speak to you. Magazines, books, printed images, quotes, photos, screenshots, anything visual. You can cut them out, print them, or even create a digital board (not my personal style, but you do you!)
As you place each item onto your board, notice how it feels. Does it feel like a YES? A spark? A little nudge toward the life you’re ready to step into? That’s how you know it belongs.
When you finish, put your board somewhere you’ll actually see it. Not behind the door. Not under your desk. Right where it can pull your attention back to your intentions every single day.
And here’s the beautiful part. Your board will evolve as you do. You can add to it, tweak it, or start fresh whenever you feel yourself growing into a new season.
At the end of the day, a vision board isn’t about predicting your future. It’s about choosing it It’s about saying, “This is who I’m becoming,” and letting your daily choices catch up to that truth When you see your dreams often enough, they stop feeling far away and start feeling possible. And when they feel possible, you show up differently.
So if you're craving a year that feels bold, grounded, meaningful, and joyful. Go create it! Give your dreams a place to live outside of your head! Create the board. Look at it often. Watch the magic unfold. And, HAVE FUN!
